I don’t trust national parks.
People just… disappear there… and they don’t really look for them…
“Oh my gosh you’ve never been to [insert forest that’s had like 100+ missing persons cases since 1950]? You absolutely *have* to go! :D”
Oh its actually a lot more than that…
wasn’t there a post about teddy roosevelt using the national parks as a coverup for storing dangerous creatures or something
In all my years visiting, camping, boating, and hiking in American National Parks across the country from Florida to Alaska and from Maine to Arizona, I have never once seen or heard any emergency responders out actively rescuing or searching for anyone (I know they do, I have just never personally witnessed it).
Meanwhile, during about two weeks in Tatra National Park in Poland, I saw their free, all volunteer helicopter emergency response team actively out rescuing about two dozen people per week from the mountains and forests (and some people still died in that same time period).
It really made me wonder how many Americans disappear each week in our National Parks without a trace.
